What You Can Do for Your Pet’s Dental Health
Your pet needs regular dental care just like you do. Here are some of our suggestions for maintaining your pet’s oral health and staving off dental disease:
Brush their teeth
Brushing your pet’s teeth is the single best at-home care solution to keeping plaque and tartar build-up at bay. Yet, it can also be the most difficult one, especially with a stubborn pet! Training your pet to accept teeth brushing is your best bet, but if you already have an adult pet, don’t be shy about asking our team for some recommendations and a demonstration!
Try different dental products
A pet toothbrush and toothpaste aren’t your only options for at-home dental care. You can try finger brushes, oral rinses, water additives, dental treats and chews, dental toys, a prescription tartar control diet, and so much more. There are loads of options, so ask us what we recommend for you and your pet!
Keep up with routine vet visits
At every wellness exam, your veterinarian will make it a point to check your pet’s teeth and gums to assess disease progression. If they find signs of disease, they may recommend a professional teeth cleaning that will help reverse any minor disease progression.
Compassionate Veterinary Care
Our Professional Cat & Dog Teeth Cleaning Services
Our professional teeth cleaning services require general anesthesia for the safety and comfort of your pet. We’ll run some tests to make sure your pet is healthy enough for the procedure. Then, we’ll perform the following:
- Thorough dental exam to assess the mouth for signs of dental disease (discolored teeth, periodontal pockets, inflamed gums, etc.)
- Digital dental X-rays to assess the health of teeth below the gum line
- Ultrasonic and hand-scaling to remove plaque and tartar from teeth both above and below the gum line
- Polishing of each tooth to smooth the enamel and reduce future plaque and tartar build-up
- Extractions of damaged teeth*
*We’ll notify you before we perform any extractions, and your pet will receive appropriate pain medication to lessen their discomfort.
